P3D 3D Wings

When I was up in Rhinebeck last weekend (my wife is a spinner and a
weaver and we were there for the annual Sheep and Wool Festival) I
found "3D Wings: Fabulous Flying Machines" by Rick Sammon (ISBN
1-56566-087-0) in the gift shop at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum.
A note at the front of the book mentions that the photographs were
taken with a "special camera that takes two pictures of a scene" (but
doesn't mention the term stereocamera, or the make of camera used) and
that the conversion to anaglyph by David G Burder from London. The
book comes with a pair of red/green cardboard pilots' goggles, but the
pictures look red/cyan or red/blue to me. The stereo effect is very
good with either the supplied red/green glasses or a pair of red/blue
glasses. There are a dozen pictures of airplanes from pre-WWI through
to the post-WWI barnstormers and a couple of WWII biplane trainers.

My own attempts at stereo photography at the Aerodrome with my 4x5
Speed Graphic and the great Bogen sliding plate mount that Dr. T has
told us all about were not as successful due to problems with my film
holder. I'll have some useful flat images, but I don't think I got a
single pair where both images in the pair turned out OK. Sigh.
