P3D RE: matched lenses

In photo-3d digest 3039 Bob Maxey asks for RBT owners to speak
up about their lenses.
Well I have an RBT X3A (the 24x33 option - not full frame) with the
Pentax 28-70 f4.0 constant aperature zoom lenses. I have found
them to be matched extremely close at both ends (28mm and
70mm) but slightly off near the center (50mm). This is obviously a
lens problem and has nothing to do with RBT's matching and
coupling of the lenses. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
On another note, I have had two Realists with 3.5 David White
lenses and one with 2.8 German lenses. One of the 3.5's was not
matched well at all and the other was tolerable. The 2.8 on the
other hand is as perfectly matched as you can get. OK, as
perfectly matched as my eyes can test in a Themelized Red
Button and projected in a TDC 116. I must say that I can detect
some pretty minor differences though.
Thanks for the time,
