It might. In some cases a title or description is necessary or, at the 
very least, helpful. They are more often seen in hanging exhibits or in 
magazine articles than in competitions. One of the biggest factors in 
not having them in competitions, IMHO, is time. Each time you read a 
title and the judge stops to ponder the title, especially if it is 
subtle, adds to the length of the competition. In our local Council 
competitions (2-D), we have some categories that have over 100 entries. 
It would add too much time to call out the titles of every image, not to 
mention get confusing. In the case of the Mars/Arizona desert example, 
in a competition you would have to just accept that it might not be 
readily identified, but if were to be displayed or printed, then a title 
or description should be used.
