Well a better approach, just to make sure the auto-focus doesn't
get `faked-out' by the glass or some other condition, is to manually
focus the camera at infinity. All it takes is a single push of an
admittedly hard-to-press button.

Thought of this myself but haven't tried it yet. One problem of
course is keeping accurate framing when moving the lens cap and
re-aiming the camera. But otherwise, can't think why it shouldn't
work.
What I want to do most with my S1 is use polarizers, but I haven't
figured out a good system yet. I'll let you know when I do. Maybe
we need a list for just S1 owners? :-)
