P3D Scanning Slides

OK, so I'm computer illiterate, or computer idiot etc....the active word
here is " computer" I hope!
I have access to a top model HP computer and flatbed scanner. The
scanner specs as I understand them can run 1200 dpi at 400% max
enlargement size. Can I scan 35mm slides with this setup and what
software would I need?
BTW, I have figured out 75% of my Web TV features though.:-Q  Thanks for
the help.
