For the speed, I would definitely say 100 (or maybe 64).
Slide films faster than 100 have coarser grain that the 100 speed
slide films, which is particularly obvious with stereo slides in a
viewer. While newer 400 speed print films are far finer than the 400
speed films of years past, this is not true with fast slide films.
Kodachrome 25 has great clarity and sharpness, and speed adequate
for many outdoor conditions - but still presents a true handicap in
indoor and dull-cloudy conditions - both of which we (90% of us) will
encounter more of in the coming months.
As for brand, I liked Fuji Sensia 100, but it was recently
discontinued and replaced with Sensia II. Both Sensia II 100 and
Kodak's Elitechrome 100 are good beginner choices, but are both balanced
to produce natural colors in cloudy weather of uncorrected flash, they
both will render noonday sun as "late afternoon" orangy. If you don't
mind paying the price for professional film, Kodak E100S and Fuji Provia
100 are great.
