P3D Medium Format Stereo

There have been several comments on Med Format stereo. I have 2 Sputniks
and find them to be quite good if you know their limitations. These can
be found for around $250. I bought a mint Sputnik with the original
print viewer ( which is nicely made a works well as slide viewer over a
light table) off ebay, directly from China for $225 including shipping.
I swear there had never been a roll of film in it. It had the factory
take-up spool. I have found that if you spend 2 minutes taping up the
back with gaffers tape you eliminate the light leaks. Its almost easier
to guesstimate the focusing than use the ground glass. You must know
your distances in meters. But then we should all know how to be
hyperfocal anyway. The lenses aren't superb but I'm sure compare to a
Lubitel or similar. I would recommend lens shades made from plastic film
cans. My first Sputnik came from Joel Alpers at Rocky Mountain Memories.
He also sells MF mounts of various formats and panoramic mounts in 24x58
for anyone with a Widelux or Horizont etc. Views with my Horizont are
interresting. I wish I had a projector for these. Enough rambling for
now.
