***** Without precision alignment methods, you have to develop a skill for
getting as close as possible, usually by shooting many pictures. You could
use a polaroid at the two locations to verify a particular camera height, or
carefully record positions as you refine things.
If it's not quite what you want but close, and you can't or don't choose to
shoot it again, you can always digitize and repair them.
An idea, get a laser pointer and a line level. Tape them together and test
in a small area to make sure they are aligned. Then point the laser between
camera tripods. That should easily cover the 20 to 60 feet you might need.
Easiest with a helper of course.
