I use a Nikon Coolscan. Gives excellent results with 2x2 slides and
with negatives. Current cost for my 2 year old model is about $800.
It gives a top DPI of around 2300 but I usually scan much lower since
I'm only going to end up with 72 DPI anyway.

I've tried a flatbed and found that it wasn't worth using for
transparencies.

To scan realist mounts I use a 2x2 cardboard mount into which I've
cut a "tight" opening for the realist size mount.

This gives me a good scan without the squirming and moving that one
gets when trying to scan the realist mount alone.

The "cut" mount lasts for about 2-3 rolls of stereo pairs.
