hi all!! when a stagehand friend of mine called and asked if i wanted
him to get me in free to see philip glass's 3d concert, i jumped at the
chance!!! i love philip glass music and 3d both, so why not!!!!!
the following is a short review of this show, imho!!
basically, the concert ensemble consisted of four singers, two flutes,
one sax and four keyboards! above the musicians was a 10' x 24' silver
projection screen!! two 70mm polarized projectors worked from a
soundproof booth actually built in the balcony to obtain the proper
distance to screen! (my friend helped build this booth)
the music consisted of 13 pieces (movements) with each having a seperate
visual accompanyment! the 3d visuals were computor generated movies and
generally pretty abstract!! the first piece was a desert scene which
at first appeared to be a still photo until you finally noticed a small
cloud moving across the sky! after five minutes the cloud went away and
two giant feet slowly step onto the sand and it ends! another was a
house floating down a river in jungle with a man, woman and child
walking around on the roof!! the house floats down the river and across
an ocean and into new york harbor!! very slowly!
to me, these visuals were pretty boring, mainly because everything was
done in such super slow motion!! the 3d was ok except for a vertical
missalignment! (about a foot off, on screen!) colors were not bright
but sufficient! my conclusion is that if someone attends primarily
to see the 3d show, they will be pretty dissapointed!!!
i loved the music but still came away dissapointed!! my friend said if
he couldn't get me in free, i could get a $12 balcony seat! after
paying $5 for parking and finding he couldn't get me in i had to pay $25
for my seat because the $12 ones were sold out!!!! on the way out i did
pick up virgin package of 25 souvenir polarized 3d glasses, custom
designed by gai gherardi and barbara mcrenynolds of l.a. eyeworks!!
(i'll send you a pair for $1 plus postage!!)
tooDDDeloo! janni bearDDD! creative stereography! kansas city!
