P3D Re: Hugo de Wijs VM viewer
Abram Klooswyk did a fine job in explaining why the lenses should
be adjusted to the image and not to the observer. I am in full
agreement with that. My only concern is this statement:
>The View-Master system is probably one of the best in keeping
>far point separation at a standard value. Therefore VM viewers
>_don't need_ an adjustable interocular!
Unfortunately, View-Master commercial or personal reels do not
keep a standard far point separation. There is significant
variation. Anyone who has tried to project VM reels in a large
screen is usually aware of these variations. Some of it might
be due to the small size of the chips (harder to make small
adjustments). This variation can be a problem when viewing the
images at high magnification. I have used other high-magnification
VM viewers without interocular adjustment and had hard time
fusing some (quite a few) images.
Therefore I will modify my original statement as follows:
Variable interocular adjustment in a relative higher magnification
VM viewer (like the Hugh de Wijs viewer) is a plus, given the
variation of infinity point separation found in VM reels.
Also, the large size and quality of the lenses makes viewing
a pleasant experience for everyone, especially those with
narrow or wide interocular.

Oh, oh! I am in trouble again! That's why I run my own
lists... Then no one can kick me out!!!
