mentioned that "Creature from the Black Lagoon" was 3D.<

Dial M was only shown in certain first run situations (including New York)
in 3D, but not in subsequent runs, so it's entirely possible that your dad
missed the 3D presentation. However, Creature from the Black Lagoon was one
of the most widely-touted 3D movies of the era, so with all due respect,
your father's history with regard to 3D movies seems sketchy.
