P3D TDC Project-or-View

I just purchased a project-or-view with a few problems. If anyone can
help, I would appreciate it. The lenses were loose in the bottom of the
unit and there were a couple springs and "C" shaped strips of metal. I
screwed in the lenses and fit the springs and strips around the lenses
(OO). The lens separation adjustment works but the tension of the
springs pulls the lenses back together. Does that sound correct? All I
can think is to maybe get weaker springs or put cork or a rubber washer
behind the knob to create drag. Also how can I adjust the lenses? If I
adjust with the unit on, I can't get past the fan. Ouch! I thought I
could have another fan blowing over the bulbs from the outside while I
adjust the lenses. The instructions say that anything beyond cleaning
the polarizers should not be attempted. I've had it mostly apart and
back together and see that it isn't the easiest to work on. Thanks.
