P3D Computer 3d in Cleveland Ohio

Stereogram 3.10 (newsletter of the Ohio Stereo Photographic Society)
is in the mail today. This is the last newsletter for the 1998-1999
season, the second year of our club. A bound collection of the
newsletters will be offered for sale (details in sell-3d).

One of the articles in the newsletter is about "Computer 3D". This
was the subject of our May meeting. After a short introduction by
DrT (the blind dog leading the crowds) we showed 27 slides, examples
of computer 3d. A good part of these were from the book "3D Museum",
conversions of famous paintings from 2D to 3D by Makoto Sugiyama.

In addition, we had the pleasure to show samples of the work by
Larry Berlin and Boris Starosta. Larry sent us 10 representative
slides with full descriptions. These are displayed in the Internet
at: http://3dzine.simplenet.com. I understand that he is putting
some of his stereo images together is a calendar which is for sale.

Two of Larry's slides were entered in our competition ("Open") as an
experiment and one of them "The Difference" got enough points for an
award! Also two his slides are reproduced in the newsletter, "3D is
Phun" and "Ice Cool".

One interesting note: Larry’s slides shown in the club were
photographed directly from the computer display. I was surprised
by how good the quality was!

The other stereo artist highlighted in our meeting is Boris Starosta.
As you know, Boris has done a lot of work with computer generated images
and female nudes. His work is at: http://www.starosta.com/3dshowcase,
and many of his images are available for sale. Two of his images
reproduced in our newsletter are "Pixie" and "Atlas Industrial Robot".

I would like to thank all of you who responded to my questions regarding
computer 3d before our meeting and especially Larry Berlin for going
through the trouble to send slides and patiently wait for their return!

George Themelis
