I might put in a "plug" for the con next year. Bear in mind
that Phoenix is perhaps 4 hours (depending on how fast
you drive) south of the Grand Canyon, and less than that
from Sedona, which appears in many auto commercials.
Not to mention other touristy stuff.
With the proper finagleing, one *might* be able to manage
a "family vacation" connection with going to the convention.
(Also bear in mind that it's much cooler up in Northern
Arizona due to the altitude - around 7,000' once you
get up on top of the rim).
