I didn't go with the Scanmaker, I recently purchased the UMAX PowerLook III.
This was a scanner that was selling for $1800 six months ago and is now
about $900. I haven't upgraded the images on my website, but I have tried it
out on somethings that gave me problems with a scanner of similar capabilities
but about 2 years old.
I went with this unit because of the wild formats that I shoot - everything
from Realist mounts, to 4x5 and 6x17. The big problem I had with my previous
scanner was dynamic range. If my transparency was contrasty or on the dark side
the scan just did not work, I'm now happy with what I can produce from my
own flatbed setup.
