P3D beam splitters and super8

nathan kreuter wonders about super8 in stereo.
I've shot one reel, using a Miida (Stitz) beamsplitter. It worked
surprisingly well. The Miida tends to be rather expensive- I got mine for
$90 CDN but they usually go for a lot more. I shot my film on tri-x- the
grain was there, but not too offensive. The one drawback is the aspect
ratio- it's vertical. Elmo made a stereo attachment that worked around
this, but they are very rare- (although I see that Dalia will have one in
the upcoming auction) I have not yet built anything to attach the Miida to
the projector- I just hold it in place. It comes with a polarizers that
fit over it, for projection.
As for Super8 labs, they are around, I think Super8 Sound
(www.super8sound) will do mailorder processing, of course k-crome you you
get a mailer to send it to Kodak.
One more thing- if you find the book Lipton on Filmmaking
he has a picture of a super8 rig with twinned Nizos and mechanically
interlinked projectors. Very cool.
I'd be interested in hearing how it works out.
There is a Super8 film fest here in Toronto-one of the people who runs it
works at the same place I do, I might try to talk her into a stereo
screening, particularly if she's forgotten how awful the (2d) film I
submitted
this year was...
