P3D Realist Mounts and Stereo Cards

Nathan Kreuter asked about the size of the images on a standard 3 1/2 x 7
stereo card
I think it is better not to exceed 3" wide on the prints for a standard
size stereo card. Otherwise you may end up with to much separation
between homologous (like) points on the two images which can cause a
fusing difficulty for some folks. The distance between homologous
points, that is most widely accepted, is between 75 -80 mm ( 2 15/16 -
3 1/8 inches) , although many, many of the antique cards exceed this
measurement. I print my stereo images 2 7/8 inches wide and about 3 1/8
inches high. Then I mount them with a slight gap between the images and
most of them are then within the aforementioned distance. Of course there
are some "visual athletes" who can fuse up to and over 100 mm separation,
but you can't be guaranteed that all the judges in a international
exhibition have this "qualification"
On stereo slide mounting, I think that the RBT is the easiest for a
"stereo slide newbie" to use. I count myself in this category since I
have only been taking slides since 1985. If you mount them wrong, all
you need to do is snap them apart and remount.
A minor, but important, point. Many stereo slide exhibitions have a rule
in their entry forms which states, more or less "Slides may be remounted
by the exhibition committee" We " newbies" really appreciate that!!!!!
Nathan if you would like copies of a couple of stereo card mounting
articles, please contact me at the address below. Also if you would like
a copy of the entry form for the next international Stereo Card
Exhibition, The ISU International, being held in Germany with a closing
date of 28 August let me know.
