P3D Re: Mail & such
Please note that there are several different mail tools used by the wide
variety of people who subscribe to this list and not all of them work
exactly the same. Some mail tools allow the individual to configure
their "from" address information and others don't. A good example would
be mail from my unix account here at work. If I sent this from there,
it would say I was "Ronald Beck . RJB1 . 0840196"
<rbeck@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>". Now, this is because our standards
for assigning accounts is to put name, MSGID (internal mail) and
employee ID in the unix ID comments field. Other administrators put
whatever they want in that field including nothing.
If I were to use the company mail server (rather than my own unix mail
server), You would probably see this from A0840196@xxxxxxxxxxxx which,
again, wouldn't make much sense to anyone outside our company.
Fortunately, Netscape allows me to enter the information it uses to
indicate who is writing. I could easily be Dr. George Themelis if I
wanted, or even Abram Klooswyk :-) :-)
I do agree that it would be nice to include at the very least a
signature at the end of any posting. Thus, I virtually always end my
mail with...

Ron
