P3D "Art"

Visual art criticism, to put on the pedantic hat, breaks down
historically into issues of line shape, color, form, and texture. As
for the image, there is realism -sometimes known as objectivism (make it
as close to real as possible), surrealism (bend reality somewhat to make
a point), and non-objectivism (the object is immaterial, and only the
issues of line shape, etc. are of importance).
Photography is usually restrained to realism, and at best
surrealism. Getting the object to become non-important (for example, a
color field, or a closup of sandpaper) is rare. Each category has
zillions of subcategories, so please don't jump all over me for
oversimplifying this, please.... but in general, color photography is
an issue in and of itself, as is hyperrealism...a color photographer
could, and probably should at one time in his or her life, make an
entire spectrum of color variations of the same image as a good
exercise..
And this issue of "art" is one of the aspects of which makes
diableries so interesting to me, I guess. Great images, almost lost, but
what were they in their time ?
Respectfully submitted,
Dr. S. (Bob Schreiber)
