P3D Mount Features
ATTN: Paul Talbot and others interested in Paul's "Mounting Feature Survey".
I've chosen Spicer mounts because...
1. I don't want to spend the bucks for fancy-schmancy aluminum or RBT (not
thrilled with lack of control in the RBT process either). Spicers =
affordable = shoot more film = mo' happier.
2. They are supposed to be the most precise paper mounts available, per
others with far more experience than I. Personally, I have not used the heat
seal alternative, so I don't know how it compares for precision.
3. Spicers are avaliable in 5P regular and close up. I need and use both.
4. Mounts with mounting aids like tabs, dents, etc? I don't use 'em. Got my
own way of mounting with home built "Precise-0-Mounter Rig", and I'm happy
with it. I say build intelligence in the mounting rig, invest money to
return precision there, not in the mount.
5. But, dammit, sealing 'em up is a pain in the ass. I've had 4 rolls
mounted for a month now, but now I have to do the hands-on very manual
glue-stick seal job that I dread. BTW, my tape jobs look like hell, so I
glue. Heat seal would be nice. Peel & stick might be nicer, but costly?
I dunno.
That's my perspective.
