I'm not sure what Mark was trying to get at here. The Nimslo is a
different
kind of camera than the Realist and excels in the print area, not
slides.
One might say that a Realist is worthless compared to a Sputnik or other
medium format camera because you have these iddy-biddy little slide
chips
that don't carry 1/6 of the visual information as a good 6x6. So, a 4p
Nimslo slide chip is not going to give you the versatility as a 5, 7 or
8p
chip. If you are going to shoot slides, the Nimslo is probably not the
camera for you. But if you are going to shoot lenticulars, just try and
get
those out of a Realist. Assuming you are going to use the outer 2 frames
to make prints, all the Realist gains you is the ability to crop more
creatively than a Nimlso (the format of the Realist is a little wider
for
the same height) and that will only matter if you are taking close-ups.
One might argue the relative merits of Realist lens sharpness vs. Nimslo
lens sharpness but let's face it, either one is only going to be
enlarged
a maximum of 4 diameters to make Holmes cards and that is WELL within
the acceptable limit of all but the most discriminating stereo
connoisseurs.
Different cameras for different purposes. I have two Realists which I
haven't even picked up in years. Why, because they are too damned hard
to
use for making Holmes cards. They do a nice job, granted, but you feel
like
Matthew Brady using one. If I were going to shoot some more slides, then
the Realist would be my camera of choice and the Nimslo would be left
behind,
or delegated for the print version of the shots.
