P3D Black Bears

OK, the black bears scenario....how to expose the shot. Are the bears
located in the center area of the image? Is the surrounding environment
comprising 50% +of the picture? This is difficult to answer without
seeing the composition, but I'll relate a similar example.
An auto camera will ( with 50% of the image being foreground,
background) expose for 18% grey/reflectivity. The bears will be dark,
the bright spots will be alittle hot, but the scene is properly exposed
according to the meter. Now lets change the composition and fill the
frame with the bear. ( try this with the S1 :-)) The camera will
overexpose. The bears coat will show alot of detail but the coat will
appear to be a dark dirty grey, and perhaps the hot spots would appear
shiny, almost like a metallic reflection. Underexposing 1-11/2 stops
will give you a rich black coat of fur with good details. I have similar
shots of my black Lab I could bring to the meeting to show you the
difference. But your preferences are entirely up to you.
