P3D Exposure Compensation

George, do you want your steps to look white ( the most natural
reproduction of the scene) or would you prefer the camera's auto
interpretation of the scene? To understand how your camera will react to
the scene, and knowing the final result you want to attain, would
determine whether or not to use exposure compensation. If you can recall
last year I entered a shot of the Point Fountain. The spouts were
backlit by direct sunlight. I decided to use the XA2's, auto exposure,
because I knew the cameras would " squint" and underexpose the image.
The result was a rich blue sky.....a twilight look with the fountain
outlined as a silouette, one of my favorite shots to date! The
difference between understanding auto-exposure and not understanding
auto-exposure is this. I predicted this result when I took the photo.
The " average moron" would get the same result too but would not have a
clue. He might say " Cool shot....I don't remember being there at night,
but I must of had a few beers, stuck around and finished the roll" :-)
