P3D Prints?

Part of my responsibilty is to QC the work from the downtown labs.
Services include 35mm, APS, floppy, photo CD, Internet upload, photo to
photo reproductions and restorations, enlargements, E6, mounting on
gator, foam you name it! ( yes, and alittle stereo too....very little:-(
Would I shoot prints today? Yes and no!
Let me put it this way, since I can monitor the work with unlimited "
re-do's", print film is not out of the question. If I did not have this
luxury would I shoot print film? No way!! I have a decent printer who
will become offended beyond a single "re-do". Most lab techs can fool
around with a camera and take some pretty good pictures, but they are
still in the dark concerning many photographic principles. When I QC'd
my best printer I found 2 bad prints from a roll of 24.....to me 10%
error is alittle high but I must consider the source also. Disposable
cameras overexposed are routine!
I feel the customers are entitled to re-do's, on the other hand many
will take advantage so I must consider the source. I'll insist on redo's
taken with an F100 before I'll authorize a re-do from a throw-away
camera. Sorry.......if they cannot buy a decent camera then they will
receive " first-take" prints.........unfortunately many folks are using
these POS! ( pieces of s$#%^&t :-)) Mark Dottle
