A Classic example of the Zone System.
The tonal range of the scene is beyond the capability of the film. To
capture the details of the shadows (toe of the exposure curve) one must move
the shadow up the curve so one needs to over expose. To save the highlights
requires underdevelopment of the film to compress the tonal range of the
scene. Though this is not practical when shooting color transparency film,
it shows that fundamentals of sensitometry apply to all light sensitive
materials and at times it those fundamentals get in the way of the minds
eye.
