Wasn't this done by Consumer Reports magazine?

And to be valid, such a study would have to examine the results over
more than one batch of emulsion from each manufacturer, and more than
one trip to the processor.  Consistency is probably more important, in
the long term, than one-shot results.  E.g. they may have just gotten
lucky and hit a rare good batch of a particular film, or hit the
processor right after their annual Kodak quality tune-up with the
results going seriously downhill for a year until the next one...

(I have serious doubts about CR's objectivity and/or their ability to
distinguish between "fair" and "excellent", based on past articles about
things of which I know a little bit.)
