I like the famous phrase...

I can't define pornography but I know it when I see it.

Compare the model shoots that Playboy publishes with the model shots
that Hustler publishes. While I don't read these publications on a
regular basis (or any basis these days), the memory of past magazines is
still pretty vivid. Playboy had models on a couch or bed, partially
draped. Hustler had models sitting on chairs spread eagle. IMHO, the
Playboy spread was art and the Hustler spread was pornographic trash.

It would be pretty hard for me to accept that anything created with
dung, or blood would be considered art. It certainly has no place in MY
home. Of course, that's my opinion. Obivously the artist(s) of the NY
exhibit consider their works art and do not have my reservations on the
use of their chosen media.

On public viewing of 3D nudity, we all have to remember that there are
laws about nudity in public places. And, again, while we may consider
the photos art and have no reservations on showing them, there are other
opinions out there. It is not inconceviable that a 3D viewing of nudes
could be shut down by the police and all "artistic content" be seized as
evidence. Absurd you say??? Well maybe but stranger things have
happened.

I'm not a prude. However, I would explain to my son that something made
of cow dung really seems pretty disgusting. Besides, how would I feel
if he started making sculptures with the dog dung in the back yard?

For now, I'll stick to photographing the kids playing and enjoying
birthdays and even the occassional "bare butt on bear rug" photos. I'll
let someone else expand their horizons with "alternative" media art
projects.
