Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I don't believe that it was answered. 
A NSA convention attendee from Japan (I have lost his name) brought a rather 
nice beamsplitter rig that he had made for an old generation digital camera.  
He modified a beamsplitter from a cheap camera and put it on an attachment 
which screwed onto the tripod mount so that it could be easily 
attached/detached.  It was very well-made in construction and appearance.  
The viewfinder was modified to show the actual image.

Contrary to some statements made on this list about the quality of digital 
stereocards, the sample views were quite nice, even though all of the 
equipment (camera and printer) was a few generations back.  You couldn't put 
a magnifying glass on them and read street signs, but there was reasonably 
good detail.
