P3D Teach Cheap?

The recent discussion of the View Magic system made me nostalgic for my
first stereo experience: Two disposable cameras strapped together into a
cardboard holder, synchronized fingers, drug-store processing, and prints
glued to cheap poster board under a View Magic. With this rig and
Ferwerda's help, I learned trimming for the window, the effects of varying
infinity separation, limiting subject distance and how to adjust when I
shot too close, how to think in 3D compositions. Inexpensive multiple
prints to hack up made trial-and-error learning painless, and saved me
some hard lessons when I started shooting slides. Ah, for those simple
happy days.

I never did figure out how to rig a synchronizer for the shutters, though
I tried several methods - the most successful involving popsicle sticks,
but ultimately not better than my two fingers.

Has anyone invented a good way to combine these cheap cameras into a
synchronized, aligned, one-button operation? Has anything been marketed?
I think it would make a good low-investment hands-on training kit, with
the proper manual.
