Currently printing photo quality with the PC is cost-prohibitive, that
is true.  However, if your goal is learning to take and format stereo
pairs, then a digital camera and the Stereo Image Factory software
package would make a great combination -- particularly since you can
save as jps and view the results in a variety of configurations or
styles.  It allows printing to standard and non-standard configurations
as well for those who do want to print.

I use SIF in combination with my scans for formatting now and have
started to see much better results than what I had previously been
accomplishing.
