P3D Ophthalmology and Geology using 3D

Does any one know what type of stereo systems opthalmologists use? I know
that they do a lot of macro stereo photography of eyes because it allows
them to see the anatomy of the eye very well. I think it might be used
before surgeries in order to look for potential complications. At any rate,
I do know for a fact that these doctors do macro stereo work with at least
2:1 magnification. I don't know whether they have a very specific camera for
this or if they are using some type of a rail set up. Does anyone have any
factual knowledge about this (as opposed to blind speculation)?

I also know that people working in geology and cartography use large
table-top viewers to look at pairs of 8"x10" aerial photographs in stereo.
Nikon and a couple other companies make the viewers. Has anyone tried to use
these to look at large stereo prints?
