I am sure the word "rare" had nothing to do with it :-)
Timing is a big factor in eBay auctions. If two (wealthy) people
happen to want the same item at the same time then the price can
skyrocket. Maybe these people had not noticed the projector listed
in the first round. But how can you tell that the reserve was $2500?
I don't see how you can get this information from the bidding
history. Also, are you sure that the other Realist projector
that you saw was the 82 and not the 81 model?
There are two Realist projectors: Model 81 and model 82. The
second one is more desirable because it uses "faster" optics
and 1000W bulbs. Charles Piper in his Technical Pages talks
about model 82 and considers it the best 41x101 projector to use
for large audiences (but this was written before the Bracketts
and RBTs were around). So the Realist model 82 is a desirable
projector. I would like to see and use one but not at this price!
