"Value" to whom? To you, it would increase the value of the slide/image;
a collector who doesn't care much about the image would find this would
decrease the value of the slide. My personal compromise would be to
remount in a manner that doesn't seem quite so anachronistic as a
vintage slide in an RBT mount, such as an aluminum mount, or remounting
in the original mount if possible. This is a bit like the "should I file
down the bump on my Realist flash shoe?" question. And I guess I value
function over form there too, at least for my 3.5 Realist. But if you
had an individual slide worth $300 as a collectible, no I would not
recommend remounting it. But for typical vintage Realist slides, I would
say, go for it and remount as you like.
I hate to say it, but this "value" question seems a little like "what is
art"....
