I think equating viewer and projection mounting to be excessively
theoretical, because in practice I find them to have substantial
different tolerance levels as well as having different things adjustable.
Why does a stereo projector have anything but focus adjustable (except
for the StereoMatic 500 which actually doesn't) ?
My personal "position" is closer to yours than the other end, but
not near so strongly. Long-term, going "cold turkey" forces better
mounting by embarrassing to death anybody w/o mounting that
matches the initial slide when the projector is setup ( hopefully
that slide is correct). Either learn how to mount or stop bringing
slides. Also forces everyone to use the same mount, which
for practical purposes isn't a terribly bad idea, even if it does cut down
on the number of slides available to be projected. On the other
hand, in the short term, the projectionist has slides being projected
that are hurting eyes "a little", and there is something (s)he could do to help,
but doing so is counter to long-term goals. What should be done?
Stop, yank'm out and say "sorry, not up to snuff, try again another time
when you can do it right". Uh......don't think so. The previous threads
have been long due to these long and short term goals not being compatible.
I think proper way is to have the technical problems with the mounting
pointed out -- and to do adjustments where practical. The slide with errors
needs to be projected long enough for the corrections to be pointed out, while
not messing up people's minds in the meanwhile. In other words, try
to accommodate the slides being projected, while simultaneously helping the
maker of the slides learn how to do better next time. Somewhat of a compromise
approach.
