In addition to an extended stereo base you will want to shoot
in the morning and late afternoon to best bring out the shape
and color of the rocks. I would also recommend the Indian cliff
dwelling ruins near Sedona called Montezuma Castle National Monument.
While The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Arches National Park,
and the Sedona area of Arizona are fairly close together on a
map, they can be half a day travel by car from one site to
another. The city of Flagstaff, Arizona is centrally located for
the Grand Canyon and Sedona. While in Flagstaff you can visit the
Lowell Observatory. This is where the planet Pluto was discovered.
Also, don't miss Meteor Crater. This is slightly east of Flagstaff.
It is a mile wide crater created by a meteor striking Earth about
50,000 years ago.
Staying in Moab, Utah would put you close to Monument Valley and Arches
National Park. Remember all these areas are in the country and the
location of many Indian reservations. There are very few hotels,
restraints, and gas stations outside the towns.
