[photo-3d] Photo Smart Scanners and 3D

I've had pretty good success with my PhotoSmart scanner
and 3d materials. If the film is uncut, you can turn off
the "slice" setting and scan, for example, 3 regular slides.
Then use a graphics program to cut out each 3d image. I
use the "fixed size" rectangular selecting tool in
PhotoShop so that all the images will be exactly the
same size. "Eyeballing" makes things harder when
you start to assemble the pair.
If the film is already mounted, you can unmount it and
scan each chip individually. I widened some regular
Polaroid quick mounts for the purpose. I place a 1.5
sprocket slip of black film on either side of the 3d
chip, close the slide mount and scan as I would an
ordinary 35mm slide. Again, I use the "fixed size"
featuer in Photoshop to extract the chip from its
surroundings.
Hope this is useful to someone...

A piece of
dark film on either side will help ensure consistent
scans.
