These bulbs are made under special order and in small
quantities. The market for halogen bulbs with a screw
base is very small since almost all flashlights use a
bayonet lamp base. Because of this fact (special order,
small quantities) the ratings and physical characteristics
might change. Also, Steve and myself are getting these
from different suppliers.

When my supplier came up with the idea of "frosted bulbs"
(that was about 3 years ago), I was very excited. But
in my first order I noticed that some bulbs were "frosted"
better than others and in many cases the texture from
the "frosted" surface was transmitted into the reflector.
My supplier said that he was using an automated setup
and the frosting was achieved by shot-blasting. I then
figured how to "frost" these myself using a Dremel
tool and a diamond attachment and have been doing
this ever since. By doing so I feel that I have better
control over the process. I also shorten the glass
nipple at the top to make the bulbs fit in stereo viewers.
I believe that Steve gets his bulbs factory-frosted but I
don't know by which method. I am not implying that hand-
frosting is better than automated frosting... I just
got used to doing this myself. I have seen the bulbs
that Steve sells and they look very good.
