I think for most 35mm cameras, the film goes from left to right.  Since the 
images are inverted, shooting left first will get the left frame closer to 
the leader, and the right frame further in.  Then, when you turn the roll 
upside down so the leader is on the left, the left frame will be on the left.

So I concur with George's answer.
