[photo-3d] "3 wire" twinned Ricoh XR-10Ms

Last week I took a close look at the images and information Ray Moxom had
kindly posted about wiring Ricoh KR-10Ms and decided to give it a shot. One
of my XR-10Ms had such a loose electronic release cable that I was missing
half my shots, so I figured I didn't have much to lose. After looking at
different wiring options, I decided to try using the modular telephone
connections that are standard here in the USA and Canada. I bought a 4 wire
male to female extension cable, cut it in half, stripped and pre-tinned
three of the wires, cutting away the fourth. I opened up the cameras and
soldered the wires to the three connections on each Ricoh's shutter.
Thanks again for the info Ray - I'm delighted with the results. I've shot 3
pairs of rolls with perfect synchronization and not one misfire - even when
the cameras were in "power saving" mode. I have noticed that for flash
shots both cameras need to be awake to avoid a dark bar appearing in one
image. No problem, waking one camera now wakes up the other one! The two
cameras now feel like a single camera - I never even think about the sync.
Since I'm using standard phone cables I can get extensions for hyper
shooting at my local supermarket. I wired an electronic release to a two
wire phone jack and have had no problem using the remote release with a dual
telephone adaptor. I've posted 10 stereo pairs showing the entire procedure
to the P3D files - they're in a folder called "Jim's Twin XR-10M folder".
The folder also has an image "NYC Pigeons" which is a shot I took at 1/500
with both cameras asleep. Jim Harp
