I keep running into similar situations, often with enlarged displays of
stereo pairs onscreen. I highly recommend Alan Lewis' nicely made,
adjustable and compact "Freeviewer's Assistant" as a very handy
solution. Because it is a small package of adjustable front-surface
mirrors you hand hold in front of one eye, it takes a while to learn how
to use it correctly (you rotate it [around the "Z" or "roll" axis] to
correct vertical misalignment and tip it up or down [around the "X" or
"pitch" axis] to correct rotational misalignment, which are not the
intuitive moves you instinctively want to make).

But once you get the hang of it, you probably will find it indispensable
for those overly separated pairs. On numerous occasions, it has enabled
me to view enlarged stereo pairs that I could not freeview and could not
have viewed using any other viewing device that I know of.
