[photo-3d] Labs, mounting slides, and film

Hi All,
I have been a "lurker" on and off in this group for a few years -- I am
consistently impressed with the high level of dialogue, the useful
information, and the general friendliness of the p3d members. I have
learned a lot from you and I am grateful!
Time for my two cents: I started mounting my own Realist format slides into
heat-seal cardboards with the very first roll I shot. Of course, some were
good, some were not so good, and some were mounted backwards and one even
had mismatched chips. Oops. My next roll was better, and so on...
I learned a lot about mounting slides simply through trial and error (and
from some of the discussions here on this board). I am getting faster and
more accurate, and am getting better at adjusting the window, etc. I also
think it has improved my composition when I take the shot itself.
To our new friend who is looking for a lab to do the work -- give it a shot
yourself first! I love my slides, I love my Realist, and my friends and
family love seeing my stuff. You will learn a lot and feel true "ownership"
of your work in this rather rare art form!
Okay, new topic: I would appreciate comments about the different slide
films out there. I have been using the Kodak Ektachrome 200, Kodachrome
200, and once a roll of Elite Chrome 100. To tell the truth, I don't see a
lot of difference. I just estimate exposures with "sunny 16," bracket my
more important shots, and hope for the best. So far so good, but that Elite
stuff is awful pricey.
I am also trying to track down the B&W slide film (made by SCALA, I think?)
Has anyone used this stuff, and how did it come out?
Best wishes all,
Joel S. Agron
