    With the SAM I do a combination of both.  First I like to use the
    built-in movable alignment marks to quickly setup the chips,
    *then* I view the image in stereo and do any fine tuning.  

    An interesting optical illusion is when an object sticks out of
    the window.  The alignment guide, which is a thin vertical rule
    that hovers at the stereo window's surface, can be moved back and
    forth, 'slicing' through the part of the image projecting past the
    window.  I find this really helps me visualizing exactly where the
    surface of the window is in the image.
