[photo-3d] Vietnam/Stereo

Fred Sole asked about aircraft in the early days of the US involvement in
Vietnam. Fred- I was flying U1A Otter airplanes in Vietnam in 1962-63.
But there were a few UH-1 (Hueys) in Vietnam at that time. We had four
UH1As in Danang, but there were a couple of serious problems with them
(1) A good parts supply line had not been established and without spare
parts it is hard to keep helicopters in the air (2) The UH1As had a very
limited range, which meant we had to fly 55 gallon drums of JP4 to the
various field sites all over the northern part of the country so they
could refuel. But JP4 is not inert like aviation gas and it tends to
develop fungus, unless properly stored. This happened very often and we
would have to fly fresh JP4 to a helicopter because the fuel where it was
located had become contaminated by fungus/whatever. The Huey pilots
often flew as copilots in the Otters, just to get some flight time.

I was also there during The 1968 Tet Offensive and it was quite exciting,
to say the least. I crashed and demolished a UH1C gunship during Tet, on
6 Feb 1968, my 37th Birthday. We also had our first Rocket attack that
night!!

Before the fellow with the nervous finger (who incidentally lives in
Pennsylvania and IS an American Citizen) writes me a email asking what
has this to do with Photo 3-D, I had better establish the 3-D
connection.

Fred asked about stereo pictures made in Vietnam. I am sorry I didn't
make any, but I know of at least one Army Aviator that did and he has
published a 3-D picture book of his experiences in Vietnam. His name is
Joel Glenn and his address is PO Box 217, Ft White Florida 32038 E-Mail
(I think) jglenn@xxxxxxxxxxx

The last time I saw him (NSA Green Bay) he still had a few copies of his
book . If you would like to buy one please contact him.
