The main reason is because it is a QUICK and EASY and CHEAP 
way to get a digital macro image for posting to the web. There 
is no multiple steps or time constraints as with film or even 
a digital camera. For web applications it is every bit as good 
as using film and scanning it (after all you are most likely 
using the same scanner).

Obviuosly I am not going to do a scanner macro and have it 
transfered to film so I can enter it in an exhibition.
