David Kesner gave some good reasons. Another reason is try
photographing a macro of a large surface. For example a 12
by 12 inch circuit board would be kinda difficult.
What would be interesting is scanning in a very large
painting that had thick paint brushes. I have tried
similar thick objects, and it would work!
