I have to agree about using a splitter! :-)
I'm still using mine after three years! 8-)
Actually, I've decided recently to use it (actually I have four)
even more. The Nimslo has some wonderful traits, and there's
something to be said for doing a cha-cha shot when you are stuck
with only one ordinary camera, but my new job responsibilities
have left _even less_ time for something so 'unimportant'
(I know--it's _very_ important, and I'll never stop) as
photography, and it takes a lot more time to mount Nimslo or
cha-cha shots.
You just can't beat a splitter for ease of mounting. _If_
Kodak or somebody else did reliable 41X101 mounting, you could
have them do it. But they don't. And in most cases they will
send splitter slides through mounted O.K. I've never heard
that they messed up, although since they're human I'm sure
they could, which is why I get mine back unmounted. And it's
a super fast, no-brainer thing to mount them--the window is
preset and everything.
You also can't beat a splitter for film economy, unless you
go to a View Master Personal.
And although the Nimslo has decent autoexposure, it does have
quirks and the bottom shutter speed is 1/30. I much prefer
the through-the-lens, off-the-film system in the Olympus OM-10,
with shutter speeds down to several seconds. All I have to worry
about is putting the camera on a tripod if it is going to be too
slow to handhold. (I know that the horizontal shutter in the
Olympus can cause problems--I may go to a vertical shutter camera
some day, and would welcome suggestions.)
Projection would be fun (Mark D. gave me and the kids a great demo)
and can be done (with attendant problems) using a splitter, but
I'm extremely pleased with my Pentax viewer on a brilliant
fluorescent illuminator.
I gave a slide show two days ago to a new friend--very, very
successful. This is why I take pictures.
My $0.02 worth!
