As another option for flatbed scanning of Realist slides - I use an
Epson 636 Perfection with the transparency (lightlid) attachment...I
find it barely adequate for scanning with a resolution suitable for
dye-sub printing in Realist format, but more than adequate for Medium
Format. The unit came with a SCSI adapter which you must install on
your computer, or for people like me who are afraid to open the case,
your technician can do it. Bought the scanner at Buy.com for a good
price which I can't remember. Replaced an older Mustek parallel port
flatbed and was pleased with the great increase in speed.

Heres a quick sample I just scanned. This slide is Realist format,
taken with a Realist camera, and is glass-mounted (both sides) which I
scanned right through.
