[photo-3d] NSA and dealers

Oh George... you're no fun. Hey Dan, let's try and make this the longest
running thread in the history of the photo-3d list. I mean, we don't want
to just rub salt in the wound, we want habanero salsa! The ultimate end
product should be a manual on dealer protocol about the size of the Warren
Report. To get the ball rolling, I propose we first define just exactly
what a table is. I mean, you can't talk about getting dealer's tables
unless you have a fundamental understanding of the concept of "tableness".
We can probably agree that a table should have 4 legs of equal length.
Whew! Well, maybe not... I mean, what if the floor is uneven? Perhaps
there should be an adjustability component (but would this have to apply
to all legs?). And what about weight vs. features like leg adjustment,
which will impact portability (make a note to check with ADA for
guidelines on this). And then there's surface area, load factor,
composition, or-- and this is crucial-- allowable amount of gum on the
bottom. We're probably going to need to recommend adding a position to NSA
called Official in Charge of Gum Demographics. I think we can develop
microbial sampling strategies for tabletop sanitation factors, so I'm not
too worried there. However, perhaps we'll need sanitary table protectors
like those do-hickeys found behind toilets, only larger. These would be
placed between the table and the table covering, which is another
sensitive issue. Should table covers be provided for uniformity? Should
they be cotton, or a polyester mix, or vinyl? Is there a potential
conflict with Union staff if people put on their own table covers?
Flammability issues? Damn! This is bigger than I realized! (And be sure to
keep posting 3D related articles from time to time so we don't get kicked
off the list.)
