[photo-3d] 3D newsgroup needed?

I don't want to put a damper on this effort, but the day of the 
Usenet newsgroup is long past.  The spammers and sociopaths have 
spoiled something that used to be a valuable resource.

As the author of several RFDs, and the originator of the mensa.* 
hierarchy, I must now admit that the whole newsgroup thing is much 
more trouble than it's worth. I'm not going to write a long message 
about the evils of spam, moderation and crosspost wars, but believe 
me, it's a disaster.

Closed moderated web-based discussions like this one on eGroups are 
far more readable, and require less baby-sitting.  Why not start 
another?

Perhaps the question is, why is a Usenet newsgroup necessary?
